Kenya, Sosian Lodge, June 2024
“We were delighted by the helpful and expert advice from Nigel, who listened to our goals and made great suggestions - we ended up at the awesome Sosian Lodge in Kenya. We wanted a riding safari for experienced riders and one where ideally there were other activities for non-riders too. Nigel and team ensured we had support in all transfers and we had a clear itenary which gave us confidence. We cannot recommend Sosian Lodge highly enough. A highly tailored and flexible experience. This was our first visit to Africa, Inspired by our daughter who set her sights on a horse riding safari after graduating.
Every aspect of our stay at Sosian exceeded our expectations - just when we thought we’d had a day that couldn’t be beaten the next day just got better. Emma, Darren and Cass are fantastic hosts - meals are together with all guests on the veranda, next to the pool and inside in the evening and the food is wonderfully put together. We had plenty of personalised activities both riding and non-riding such as game drives, walks, camels, evening fly camps, bush breakfasts, visits to waterfalls.
Gabriel was our guide and he was awesome, he really has shared his knowledge in a thoughtful and unassuming way, he is a superb driver and is a truly amazing member of the team here. Plenty of zebra, including the more rare Grevy, hippos, leopard, lion, giraffes, baboon, impala, striped hyenas, spotted hyenas, warthog, dikdik, and several types of majestic eagle, mongoose, ants and many more…… On special request we visited a Samburu tribe village which was a privilege to visit and join in dancing with the community.
The horses are fabulous - Cass picked well matched horses and made the rides interesting. We rode every day, different routes each time and some of us rode twice in a day. Riding is undoubtably the finest most enjoyable way to see the conservancy and enjoy the game spotting. This conservancy is so peaceful and only the 14 guests at the lodges are accessing it making it a truly special place to spend time on safari.
The range of animals is great, although we understand that some busier areas in Kenya would see more numbers of animals, but often in a busier environment for vehicles etc. and far less personal or peaceful. We would go back to Sosian.
If you get the chance to go, we cannot imagine how anyone would not enjoy as much as we did.” MM (UK)

Portugal, Alentejo Coast, May 2024
"We had a super time in Portugal. Lovely, well mannered horses, great riding and good food!
Whole trip was well planned and thoroughly enjoyable. Really enjoyed being based in one place
- made for a very relaxing holiday without the hassle of daily packing and unpacking of luggage.
I know you were concerned that we should be prepared for more basic accommodation than we usually enjoy, but while the rooms were basic, they were clean, with comfortable beds, hot showers and towels changed regularly.
We ate our evening meal at both the farmhouse and beach restaurant. Food was generous, flavourful and Claudia and her team went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed a great variety of local favourites. Delicious!
Breakfast and lunch were both super too.
The guides - Paulo and Diogo were knowledgeable and attentive and managed the horses very well, especially in the light of our individual gremlins and physical challenges as riders.
We all agreed that one thing that would have brought added value to the ride would be a map of the area and our route. The landscape was varied and surprisingly beautiful with lanes and meadows full of wild flowers - fabulous!

Colombia, Eje Cafetero March 2024
'I'm just back from an utterly magical, life affirming riding holiday at Rancho Saman in Colombia.
I've ridden on most continents and had many riding adventures over the years but this was definitely the best.
The horses are exceptional. They live as a herd in pastures surrounding the lovely home-base hacienda and are fit, happy, enthusiastic and beautifully trained. Tack is locally crafted and comfortable Western with some adaptation to give close contact and the horses respond to Western and English-style aides.
Marc Noonan the owner is English and has made Colombia his home following a 'Long Ride' in South America several years ago. He has an eerie ablity to suit rider to horse and our group of five was incredibly happy with our mounts. Days are long but well paced and there are always fast canters. The terrain is very varied with cloud forest, jungle tracks, sandy paths across open country, small villages and very little tarmac. Most days the majority of the ride is completed before the hottest part of the day around 3/4pm (This is only 500 miles from the Equator and I had been anxious about the heat but the humidity makes it pleasant; I have been much more bothered by heat riding in Greece.) Accomodation is carefully picked and of very high standard with hammocks, pools and lots of character. Marc's love of his adopted Colombia shines through and this holiday is a wonderful introduction to a stunningly beautiful and welcoming country where the horse is part of the culture. (The neighbouring town of Cartago has the best shop for riders ever.. a saddlery combined with a bar...made to measure chaps
available!) The thermal pools at Santa Rosa were a wonderful treat after a long day, especially with a margarita afterwards. The birds are astonishing and a non riding twitcher partner would be in heaven!" JT (Cornwall)

Morocco, Camping Adventure March 2024
The riding was amazing, so many wonderful canters and gallops and the most beautiful landscapes. We experienced a sandstorm on one of the days which was an extraordinary experience. The distances covered were impressive, and I came away from it feeling like I had really achieved something as a rider. Kenya, Offbeat Laikipia Safari February 2024
"We had a brilliant time. Offbeat and in particular Simon are such professional and attentive hosts. The horses were amazing and well matched to us. The scenery in that area is astounding and the game plentiful. Perhaps not as fast as Simon’s Mara ride because there’s less open plains (and lots of grass at the moment ) but still plenty of canters and fun. We can highly recommend it". CA (Sussex)

Jordan, Petra & Wadi Rum October 2023
Heading home now after an exhilarating and flawless adventure in Jordan. It exceeded all expectations. The group on the ground - both Hashem (& his incredible horses) and Zaman - were exceptional and every detail went off without a hitch. I cannot think of a better way to escape from the news around us than in this stunning oasis. The Jordanian people are so lovely and welcoming and the country is magical. This is an awesome ride in an awesome country. Jordan is an incredibly beautiful country and is an oasis of calm in an area of increasing unrest. The people are friendly and helpful and despite the terrible things going on in neighboring countries we felt safe at all times.Hashem and his team go out of their way to look after and accommodate everyone and the horses are beautifully looked after. There are not many places you can gallop towards an uninterrupted horizon on good ground, on fast well behaved horses. And then camp out next to your horses after a simply delicious freshly made lunch and/or supper. It just doesn’t get any better! AH (Guernsey)
